FERNIE, British Columbia, Jan. 24 2004 (AP) — Canadians Elisa Kurylowicz and Jim Schiman won World Cup dual moguls events Saturday.
Kurylowicz took the women’s final, edging Americans Jillian Vogtli and Shelly Robertson.
“I barely skied, I barely trained this week,” said Kurylowicz, recovering from a groin injury. “This is my first real day on snow since Lake Placid (last week). My groin is still bothering me, but it was easy once I got to the finals just to focus on the task at hand.”
In the men’s final, Schiman beat American Nathan Roberts, and Russia’s Vladimir Tiumentsev. Schiman is coming back from reconstructive knee surgery.
“After everything I’ve gone through, especially with the injury (and rehabilitation) the last couple of seasons, it’s been a long time coming,” Schiman said.
“It’s something I always knew I could do. There were times you feel it’s not going to happen, but you have to keep believing.”
