GEORGETOWN, CO October 6, 2003 (Loveland Release)–Loveland Ski Area commenced snowmaking operations late in the evening on October 5, 2003. Overnight lows in the 20’s and cold dry air provided Loveland with the conditions needed to fire up its fleet of snow guns. Loveland’s state of the art, fully automated snow guns allow for maximum snowmaking potential whiledecreasing overall energy and water consumption.
Traditionally, Loveland battles for bragging rights as the first ski areain North America to open and the 2003-04 season will be no different.
“Loveland Ski Area has been making snow since 1967. Our experience combined with the mountain’s elevation will always make us a natural contender to be the first ski area to open and remain open for the season,” states Marketing Director Kevin Wright. “Our guests appreciate having one of the longest seasons in the country and we try and accommodate them by opening as soon as we have a quality product.” Historically Loveland opens with three trails that connect a mile of terrain, and 1,000 vertical feet, covered with a one to two foot base.
Loveland’s website (www.skiloveland.com) allows anxious skiers and riders the ability to view snowmaking progress as it unfolds through a series of updated digital images and webcams. Visitors may also sign up and receive the first announcement of opening day.
Loveland will continue to offer discounted season passes, the Loveland PassCard, and 4-Paks of unrestricted lift tickets until the ski area’sprojected opening day, which historically falls around mid-October. Passesand other products may be purchased by calling 1-800-736-3SKI or303-571-5580 (Denver Direct), or online at www.skiloveland.com.
