M. Di Campiglio (Trento), Italy, Jan. 29–(SAM Magazine) Italy’s chic Madonna di Campiglio has continued in its move to pedestrianise its resort base and the surrounding ski area access points.
In December 1999 the resort opened a 1,9 km (1.2 mile) long road tunnel allowing traffic to bypass the resort and park in one of the 1.000 places available in the two underground multi-story car parks built at SHubertus and Brenta Alta Squares.
For this season a third underground car park on twolevels offers 250 places in front of the GrostË gondola base station, which is also the base of the new Fortini quad chair.
More car parks are planned, including a 350-space facility at the base of the Spinale gondola, which is scheduled for completion this year. Above it Madonna will see the construction of a new Congress Centre, the Prato del Sogno. This will boast a variety of halls able to cater for top congresses and international symposiums hosting up to 1000 participants. Finally the resort’s largest underground multi-story yet, an 800 vehicle car park, will be built near the southern exit of the tunnel, providing an entry parking area for skiers.
