Mammoth Mountain Opens Thursday


Mammoth Mountain, CA - Thursday, November 7th marks the official opening dayof Mammoth Mountain Ski Area for the 2002-03 winter season. Cool, drytemperatures have allowed snowmaking crews to blanket Broadway andsurrounding trails with a base of manmade snow.

Mammoth Mountain is planning to open one chairlift, Broadway Express,tomorrow on a base depth of 12-16 inches. A series of 10 rails are set upalong the side of Broadway for jibbers of all abilities to enjoy until theUnbound Terrain Park is able to open. With cooler temperatures predicted forthe next couple of days and a series of storms on the way, Mammoth isprepared open more terrain as it becomes available.

To kick off the 2002-2003 season, Mammoth Mountain will be hosting anOpening Celebration on Saturday, November 9th. The fun starts Saturdaymorning with the Find the Woolly Contest. Scour the slopes in search ofeveryone's favorite pachyderm using a series of clues from the snow reportfor your chance to win an awesome Mammoth prize package. Get a few pointersfrom Mammoth Sports School instructors who will be on hand giving out freeski/ride tips all day in front of the Main Lodge. The annual champagne toastwill take place at noon to ring in another great season on the Main LodgeSun Deck followed by live music from Tungsten City Band, drink specials andfree hotdogs. Dragon will be on the hill hosting its Three Ring Circus, anamateur job contest open to the public. Don't miss the excitement - evenWoolly, the official mascot of Mammoth Mountain, will be making anappearance on the slopes, anxious to get in his first turns of the 2002-2003season.

First tracks of the season will be available from 8:30am-4pm with valueseason lift ticket prices $48 adults, $36 teens, and $24 for children andseniors through November 26, 2002.
