WENGEN, Switzerland, Jan. 16, 2004 (AP) — A men’s World Cup downhill race scheduled for Friday was canceled due to heavy snowfall.
Overnight snow, which continued through early Thursday, prevented race workers from preparing the Lauberhorn course in time for a practice session. An earlier practice session Wednesday was also canceled.
International Ski Federation rules require at least one training session before a race.
The revised weekend schedule calls for a downhill Saturday and a slalom Sunday.
FIS announced that it would try to run the event on Jan. 22 in the Austrian resort of Kitzbuehel, which is already due to host three other World Cup races.
