WENGEN Switzerland, Jan. 17, 2004 (AP) — A men’s World Cup downhill race scheduled for Saturday was canceled, the second straight day a race was wiped out on the Lauberhorn course due to heavy snowfall.

The race set for Friday was scrapped because International Ski Federation rules require at least one training session before a competition. Practice runs were canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.

Race workers were trying to clear the snow and prepare the course for a slalom on Sunday.

Friday’s downhill was originally scheduled to take place in Bormio, Italy, in December but was switched to the French resort of Chamonix and then Wengen because of repeated bad weather. It has now been rescheduled for Jan. 22 in Kitzbuehel, Austria.
