You'd think skiers would have grown tired of slush-cup follies, extreme snowmobiling crashes, and the other spectacular and silly antics that comprise
this year's Warren Miller movie. But it's impossible not to laugh and marvel at this stuff. Nor can you help but feel a twinge of envy every time the film's characters emerge, smiling, from seeming disaster.
Like its 50 predecessors, Rideconsists of unconnected vignettes in which thrill-seeking, somewhat offbeat adventurers wreak their own particular style of mayhem all over the world, from the bowls of Vail and Keystone to Iowa cornfields and New Zealand's Southern Alps. Through it all, though, the classic Warren Miller message is clear: Even us average Joes can do amazing things on snow, as long as we pursue our dreams.
Note: The annual Warren Miller film tour is now owned by SKIING's parent company, Times Mirror Magazines.
