Don’t like the way your local ski resort is run? For $2 million, you can buy your own ski area in southern Vermont. Listed on eBay, Maple Valley is a 400-acre operation with two double chairs, a tubing hill and nightskiing. “It’s a little tired, but the right person could make a good go of it,” says Michael Granger, owner of Granger Real Estate, which is handling the sale. He wasn’t surprised the ski area closed four years ago. “There was no halfpipe, no website, no marketing,” he points out. The resort has been for sale for about a year, and has drawn inquires from developers, a resort owner and a few ski-resort employees who want to run their own mountain. One guy even offered to swap his $2.9 million yacht straight-up for the ski area. No deal, Granger says.
