June 12, 2007 Boulder, Colo. (News Release) Bonnier Corporation’s Mountain Sports Media, the world’s leading snow-sports media company, announced the acquisition of SnowGalleria.com, the online winter-sports “mall collective launched in 2005 by Bob Geiger, COO of Descente/DNA, and other leading manufacturers. MSM will host the consumer service as SkiNetShop.com on the SkiNet.com site. Shopatron, provider of retailer-integrated e-commerce solutions, will continue to power the new e-tail endeavor.
“Our Web properties have always provided the best content related to skiing gear and travel, said MSM group publisher Jamie Pentz. “It’s exciting to finally offer this consumer aspect on SkiNet, allowing our users to purchase equipment and accessories they read about. This is a great opportunity for us to support the specialty retailers and manufacturers that are the foundation of the snow-sports industry. SkiNet.com is the host, but we’ll support this initiative with all of the MSM brands.
Shopatron’s proprietary technology allows consumers to purchase goods through manufacturers, with brick-and-mortar retail partners providing all back-end fulfillment.
“Shopatron’s solution lets our consumers develop a deeper relationship with both our brand and our specialty retailers without establishing the full infrastructure of direct-to-consumer operations, Bob Geiger said. “Through SnowGalleria.com, many industry partners found a way to enter the online sales environment. We’ll now look to Mountain Sports Media to build and market this legacy with their strong media properties, especially SkiNet.com.
Past industry participants in SnowGalleria.com and/or Shopatron include Armada Skis, Boeri USA, Descente, DNA, DryGuy, Fate Clothing, Head Tyrolia, Hestra Gloves, Hotfingers, Leki USA, Level, Liberty Skis, Line Skis, Neve Designs, Predator Wear, Reusch, Skea, Stockli and UVEX; with more coming this year.
SkiNetShop.com will launch in September 2007 in conjunction with SKI and SKIING magazines’ annual gear issues. MSM will support the launch of the new endeavor through its various industry leading media outlets in print and online.
