Mt. Bachelor Opens November 18

November 10, 2005

Bend, Ore. — (PR) Tune up those skis and boards and get ready to feel that early season burn! With last week's snow fall accumulating over 30 inches at the base, Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort is set to open on Friday, November 18. The resort's earliest opening in seven years. The first annual Ski for Schools fundraiser will be held Thursday, November 17.

Planned lift openings include Pine Marten Express, Outback Express, Skyliner Express, Sunrise Express, Sunshine Accelerator and Summit Express. Weather and wind conditions may affect some lift openings.

The newly remodeled West Village Lodge will also be open for operation. Cocoa's Café will be serving breakfast and lunch with many new menu options. Carver's, the new upscale deli, is scheduled to open and Clearing Rock Bar will open on Thanksgiving Day.

"Our crews and contractors have literally been working 24 hours a day to prepare for the season, comments Dan Rutherford, President of Mt. Bachelor. "The hard work combined with snow fall has created conditions for the earliest opening since 1998. This has us all really excited to start a great season.

Weather forecasts show that rain is expected at higher elevations late Saturday through Monday morning. Starting Tuesday, a cooling trend is expected to move through with fresh snow late Wednesday through Saturday, with up to 18 inches of accumulation.

On Thursday, Mt Bachelor will hold the first annual Ski for Schools fundraiser. Pre-sale tickets are $15. Day-of tickets at the ticket window will be $20. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Bend-La Pine and Redmond Education Foundations.

"This fundraiser is 100 percent for the kids, says Rutherford. "Mt. Bachelor and the Bend and Redmond school districts appreciate the community's support and we can't wait to see a great turn out. Since this is a benefit, season passes will not be valid on this day. Tickets can be purchased at a number of locations in Bend, La Pine, Redmond, Sisters and Sunriver. Specific locations can be found on the Mt. Bachelor website.
