FACT To prevent cutting new roads, most ski areas move their heavy equipment to lift sites in spring, when the snow is still on the ground and provides a cushion. Sometimes they disassemble the equipment and ferry it in and out by helicopter. Once holes are dug (occasionally by hand), the choppers are used to set lift towers into place.
