MYTH Ski areas are the main drivers of local economies and communities.

FACT In the old days of big resort towns, that may have been true. But today, the increasing real estate transactions and retail sales are far outpacing the growth of skiing in mountain communities. Thus, people are fleeing the cities and moving to rural places for reasons other than skiing. Urban escapees are seeking a better quality of life for themselves and their families by leaving behind the problems of overcrowding, crime, air pollution and failing public school systems.
