NASTAR Partners With Ski Team


Park City, UT Dec. 1--The 31-year-old NASTAR recreational racing program is teaming up with the U.S. Ski Team (USST) program, effective this season. Title sponsor will be Chevy Trucks. The Ski Team's leading speedster, Chad Fleischer, remains the NASTAR pacesetter.

The NASTAR program, which was developed and launched by Ski Magazine for the 1968-69 season, has always been a Ski Magazine program and remains one now. Bob Beattie's World Wide Ski Corp had run NASTAR for many years, but turned it back to Ski Magazine earlier this year in the face of declining revenues and participation.

Negotiations between The Skiing Company's Andy Clurman and the Ski Team, started almost immediately and have finally resulted in a close involvement which, in marketing terms, now makes NASTAR a Ski Team brand. Among the ways this will be clear is that the new NASTARmedals be embossed with the USST logo as well as the area's name. Each time a medal is won a contribution is made to the Team.

Management of the program has been turned over to Kaleidoscope, a New York-based giant marketing and PR firm that has the likes of Chevy Trucks, Charles Schwab and Sprint as clients--all names associated with the ski world.
