Park City, UT, Nov. 16, 2000–Switzerland’s Sonja Nef skied a blazing second run to overcome Austrian Brigitte Obermoser and win the giant slalomat the Chevy Truck America’s Opening World Cup at Park City Mountain Resort Thursday.

Nef, who was in fourth following the first run, posted a 1:16.23 in the second and won with a two-run combined time of 2:40.17. Obermoser finishedsecond with a combined time of 2:40.49 and Sweden’s Anja Paerson was third with a 2:40.68.

A pair of American skiers made the second run with Kristina Koznick (Burnsville, MN) placing 18th (2:42.65) and Kirsten Clark, primarily a speed skier, finished 26th (2:43.29). Clark stormed from a 64th start position into 23rd place after the opening run.

Weather conditions were optimal with blue skies and cold temperatures. Several inches of snow had fallen on the course over the past two days, making course conditions a bit sticky.

Obermoser held a 1.29 second lead after the first run, but skied a bit too conservatively in the second, which allowed Nef to pull ahead.

The race was the final GS warmup on CB’s Run, the course which will be used during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
