Bretton Woods, NH, June 9–Management at competingski areas in New Hampshire and California announced this week that they areteaming up in similar programs to offer skiers and snowboardersinterchangeable mid-week season passes. In New Hampshire, Bretton Woods andCannon Mountain will offer a $199 Bold and Beautiful pass that can be usedany day through December 22 and on weekdays thereafter. In California,Alpine Meadows and Sugarbowl are offering a mid-week pass for $549.
The Bold and Beautiful pass answers an offer from Booth Creek areasWaterville Valley, Loon Mountain and Mount Cranmore, which offersliders a $199 interchangeable Threedom Pass good from Sunday throughFriday. The thought is to keep the local community happy by making it asaffordable to ski near home, rather than travel south or east for theThreedom Pass.
“It’s the best of both worlds,” said Dick Andross, GM at Cannon. “Each ofthe mountains offers a unique skiing and riding experience and we’reeliminating the need to choose one over the other.” While Bretton Woods hasa reputation for family skiing on novice and intermediate terrain,Cannon-located 20 minutes away-is known as a core skier’s mountain, withsteep drops and the opportunity to ski ungroomed snow.
The joint Alpine Meadows-Sugarbowl pass was borne out of the desire toattract locals back to the two areas by offering a choice. Bill Hudson, sales manager at Sugarbowl, has also said the pass will also help bothmountains recruit new employees.
