New mountaintop SKI Mag Gold Medal Demo Center opens in New York State

The family of SKI Magazine Demo Centers continues to grow. Now skiers in Western New York State have the opportunity to try before they buy-or just check out all the best skis for curiosity’s sake.

The new Bristol Mountain Summit Demo Center, opening Dec. 28, 2002, in Canandaigua, N.Y., is the first onslope facility in the expanding chain of demo centers. Skiers will have their pick from any of SKI Magazine’s Gold Medal winning skis. Junior skis, women’s models and beginner/intermediate models will be offered as well.

An eight-hour pass to the center costs $34. The Bristol Mountain location also offers unique two- and four-hour sessions ($10 and $18, respectively). Whatever time frame they choose, skiers can try as many pairs as they like. Bristol’s facility is housed in a large mountaintop yurt at the confluence of three summit lifts, including a high-speed quad. It will also be available to rent. Ski clubs, companies and school groups can reserve the entire building to themselves—essentially their own private lodge, stocked with any ski they could wish to try.

Bristol Mountain Win Resort is a 1,200-vertical-foot mountain within an hour’s drive of Rochester, N.Y. Nightskiing is offered. Its demo center joins existing outlets at Killington, Smugglers’ Notch and Stowe, Vt., where similar programs are available to skiers looking to try the latest and best gear, or just hoping to avoid the inferior quality of most ski area rental equipment.
