Okemo's Jackson Gore Area Opened For Skiing and Riding On December 6, 2002


Ludlow, VT - Okemo's new Jackson Gore area became a reality on Friday, December 6, 2002. After four long years in the permit and appealprocess and with much anticipation, the Jackson Gore Express quad chairlift, along with seven new trails opened for skiing and riding.

The new terrain increases Okemo's vast trail network by 40 acres for the 2002/2003 season and is easily accessed from the summit of thepopular Solitude Peak area or from the Lower Mountain Road trail. Seven new trails have 100% snowmaking coverage and are tailor-made forintermediate and advanced level skiers and riders. The Jackson Gore Express chairlift is manufactured by Poma of America and measures 4,093 feetin length, runs at a speed of 1,100 ft/min and has a carrying capacity of 2,400 people per hour.

Many of the trails are reminiscent of classic New England trails and feature sweeping turns and natural undulations. With the addition ofJackson Gore, Okemo now has five-mountain areas comprised of Jackson Gore, Solitude, Northeast/Glades Summit, South Face and South Ridge.Trail names such as Quantum Leap, Sunset Strip, Escape, Limelight, Vortex and Blue Moon can be found in the new area.
