Park City, UT Feb. 3–To celebrate the upcoming 2002 Winter Olympics, Park City Mountain Resort is launching the Legacy Ski and Ride Program. This three-year program will enable Utah kids to learn to ski or snowboard for FREE.
“We started the Legacy Ski and Ride Program to ensure that kids across the state could experience some of the excitement of the competition that will be held here during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games,” said Vern Greco, resort president and general manager. “My passion for both skiing and the Olympics runs very deep. Giving kids the opportunity to learn to ski or snowboard for free is the best way to pass on this passion.”
Olympic Gold Medallist and Park City director of skiing, Picabo Street officially kicked off the program Sat. Jan. 15, in the resorts First-Time Lift beginner area. About 200 kids packed the ceremony, which was also attended by Salt Lake Organizing Committee President Mitt Romney and program sponsors the Snow Monsters. The Utah Synchronized Skiers also performed a grand finale light show.
The Ski and Ride Program will run most Friday and Saturday nights from 6p.m-9p.m through the remainder of the 1999-2000 season. Students will receive FREE rentals, a FREE lift ticket, and a FREE three-hour ski or snowboard lesson.
“I have such a passion for this sport and am so excited to introduce kids to skiing or snowboarding who have never tried snow sports before,” said Picabo Street. “This program gives all Utah kids the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful mountains and experience the joy of skiing or snowboarding first-hand.”
