MAMMOTH LAKES, CA - (News Release) - Mammoth Mountain is the place to be this summer, with activities and events for everyone. Summer officially begins on Saturday, June 23 with the opening of the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park, the Adventure Center, Climb and Zip, Scenic Gondola Rides and the brand-new Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center & Cafe.

Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center & Cafe - NEW
Visitors can explore the geologic history of the Eastern Sierra from the top of Mammoth Mountain, with spectacular 180-degree views of peaks, valleys, rivers, volcanoes and rock formations left behind from glaciers - along with explanations of what they are looking at. Mammoth opened the Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center in March 2007 after more than six years of planning and a $1.5 million dollar investment. Guests can partake in interactive displays such as Mammoth Stomp - where the visitor stomps their foot on an on-floor target, setting off a seismic sensor which gives immediate feedback on how strong their stomp was on a seismometer.

Guests can enjoy a bite to eat at 11,053 feet at the new Top of the Sierra Café. The Top of the Sierra Café will be open daily from 9:30am-3:30pm and will offer hot soups, sandwiches, grab-and-go salads, soft drinks and snacks. Admission is free with a Scenic Gondola ticket, Bike Park ticket, or Mammoth Season Pass. Scenic Gondola rides are a favorite activity for everyone and kids ride free this summer with a paying adult.

Mammoth Mountain Bike Park
Mammoth Mountain Bike Park opens Saturday, June 23 and thanks to an early spring, the snow has melted and the trails are in great shape. The Trail Crew expects to have all terrain open, with access to the top of the mountain. Over 90 miles of singletrack trails wind around, up, down, and over Mammoth Mountain. Trails for all disciplines of riders including cross country, downhill and freeride mean there's something for everyone on the ever-expanding network of Mammoth's dirt trails.

Mammoth is opening three new freeride trails this season; Techno Rock, Richter, and Twilight Zone. Freeriders should check out the Kamikaze Park which has urban-inspired features including dirt jumps, wall ride, teeter totter, features from the Unbound Terrain Parks and larger features - including the 90-foot Dragon and the Volcano. This season Mammoth Mountain Bike Park will offer guided tours, private lessons and two weekend-long camps: a women's camp, Aug. 17-19, and a freeride camp, Aug. 3-5. The freeride camp will explore the newest additions to the Bike Park, several new expert trails and the Kamikaze Park. Bike rentals are available. For details visit MammothMountain.com.

The Adventure Center
Headquarters for summer activities, the Adventure Center is not only the place where Mountain Biking and Scenic Gondola Rides take off - there are unique kids' activities, too. Kids can strengthen their climbing legs on the Climbing Rock, the 32-foot high granite boulder that can't be missed. They can soar to new heights on the 100-foot long Zip line. Helpful staff is on-hand belaying and supervising the program.

Sierra Star Golf Course
Due to the light snowfall and early summer temperatures, California's highest golf course, Sierra Star, is already open for the summer, with one of its earliest openings in history. The course is in excellent condition, with all 18 greens playable. It's the perfect way to escape the heat while taking in the beautiful alpine setting. Call 760.924.GOLF for tee times.
