Stratton, VT, Dec. 3--On December 18 and 19, many of the la creme de la creme of skiing notables will assemble at Stratton Mountain. No it's not an exclusive racing event, but just an opportunity for the skiing public to ski and hang out with these living legends.

Sponsored by SKIING Magazine, the Ski With the Greats Weekend is running in conjunction with Demo Days at Stratton Mountain. Companies like Dynastar, Fischer, Giro, K2, Line Skiboards, Marker, Nordica, Rossignol, Salomon, Volkl, and Smith will have their latest ski technology on hand for your testing pleasure. Call (800) STRATTON for more information.

Anyone can sign-up to demo skis and then go and take a few turns with ski stars like Andi Bither, Eva Pfosi Merriam, Mike Frost, Deno Dudenack, Greg Grip, Chan Morgan, and Edith Thys Morgan. And all this fun stuff is absolutely free! The Greats will be taking groups out every 45 minutes on Saturday offering ski tips, equipment advice, and just a plain old good time.

After you ski with the Greats, you can apres-ski with them. There will be a party at Grizzley's with live music, followed by dinner at the Mulligans, and then onto another party at the Green Door Pub. On Sunday, Stratton plans a fun NASTAR-style ski race from 10 to 12 on the Betwixt trail and freeskiing with the Greats for the rest of the afternoon.

Stratton Style

The mountains of Vermont hardly rivaled those of his native Austria, but Stratton Mountain’s founding ski school director knew good times were more important than towering peaks. How Emo Henrich injected a little oompah into the New England ski scene—and how, a year after his passing, his legacy of the good life lives on.

Stratton rebuilt their park for this season. The new park boasts multiple lines including one with six tables and an oversized flat down box. They also installed a 40 foot "busbox" — an actual school bus with its roof resurfaced with HDPE (box plastic), making it super jibbable.Book Your Trip NowPHOTO: Stratton Mountain Resort

Stratton is known for its polish and shine, its upscale lodging and village, and its high levels of service. Yet it arguably did more to nurture snowboarding back in the sport's wild child days than any other resort in the country.
