Snow Caps Summer at Jackson Hole

Jackson, WY, September 8--Summer has met a snowy end in Jackson, WY. The high peaks of the Northern Rockies near Jackson Hole, WY were sprinkled with snow over the Labor Day weekend bringing a taste of winter to the region.

Ironically, the fresh powder gave a boost to the summer trade. "The dusting sent locals running to get as much summer activity like biking and rafting in as they could before the winter hits," said Jackson Hole Communications Manager, Anna Olson.

Still, snow this early is no novelty in Wyoming. With temperatures in the high country typically dipping down into the low thirties this time of year, precipitation passing through the region often brings snow.

It will be a while before downhillers can take advantage of the white stuff, as Jackson Hole Ski Resort isn't scheduled to open until December 4. This season, the resort will christen the new Apres Vous high-speed quad which will replace the Apres Vous double chair. The new quad will increase skier capacity from 810 to 2,000 people per hour and cut the time it takes to reach the top of Apres Vous Mountain from ten minutes to five minutes.

With this recent dusting of snow and the predicted return of La Nina, the Teton Village area may be kicking off the winter season sooner than they anticipate.

Last season, Jackson Hole recorded their second-best season ever with a hefty 540 inches thanks to La Nina.
