Getting There Fly into Salt Lake City and rent a car. The trip to Snowbasin takes less than an hour.

Sleeping In Try the recently renovated Ben Lomond Hotel. Built in 1927, this classic hotel is located in the heart of Ogden's downtown. A standard suite with separate living room and sleeping room goes for just $64 per night (888-627-8897). The Alaskan Inn B&B doesn't allow children, pets or smoking, but offers hot tubs and luxury cabins 20 minutes from Snowbasin ($140-$195, 888-707-8600). Located 37 miles from Snowbasin, and inspired by the world's grand hotels, Salt Lake's centrally located Grand America, built by Earl Holding, combines Old World craftsmanship, charm and hospitality. Ski packages include airport shuttles, afternoon tea, spa access and passes to Alta, Snowbird and Snowbasin (per person, per night $400, 800-621-4505).

Dining Out Ogden's Prairie Schooner offers steaks, prime rib and seafood under a Conestoga wagon-top circled around a camp scene (801-392-2712). Rooster's Brewing Company is a restaurant/ brew pub that serves pasta, steak and seafood (801-627-6171).

Après-Ski The Shooting Star in Huntsville is filled with locals, great burgers, smooth beer and philosophic graffiti.

Kicking Butt Look up Kevin Stauffer on Snowbasin's courtesy patrol at the Sports Center in the Base Lodge for a local's tour of the mountain.

Kicking Back Ogden's historic 25th Street once supported brothels, opium dens and gambling halls. Today, restaurants and shops fill the old brick buildings.
