Jan. 30, 2002 — This season not only marks the 30th Anniversary of Snowbird Ski Resort, but also the 30th birthday of its historic tram. In recognition of the tram’s contribution to Snowbird’s success, long-time Snowbird loyalist Dr. Walt McConnell has written a book chronicling the cable car’s rich history. The 168-page “The Snowbird Tram — One of the World’s Great Tramways” ($45) focuses on the construction of the tram and includes stories told by employees and guests during the tram’s earlier days.
McConnell who has owned a condo at Snowbird for over three decades says, “my goal was to tell the story through the experiences of those who dreamed the dream, constructed the Tram and prepared the area for skiing.”
Over 100 photographs were collected for the book and illustrations by Snowbird ski patroller Josh Bennett complement the text.
The book can be found at retail shops in Snowbird and at the Utah Ski Museum in the Olympic Park.
