What do big-wall climbing, porcupine caribou, and Garhwal Himalayan mythology have to do with skiing?
Not much. But skiers, being mountain lovers, are welcome to apply for the same grants that were bestowed on these and other mountain-related topics. The Banff Centre for Mountain Culture’s CMC Grant Program supports causes and ideas that convey the spirit and value of mountain cultures the world over.
“What we really look for are projects that take a mountain story to a broad public audience,” says Leslie Taylor, Associate Director of Mountain Programs.
Recent projects have focused on mountain-travel safety, mountain climbing, and adventure biographies, and have taken the form of books, websites, photo exhibitions, and even a one-man play. Applications for grants of up to C$5,000 will be available at www.banffcentre.ca beginning January 31, 2002.
