Telluride Turns 30

Move to Mtns 0203 Pic G

TELLURIDE, Colo. Feb. 18, 2003 (Telluride Release)--Head to Telluride March 1-9, to celebrate 30 years of skiing, riding and snow sliding with a huge Birthday Blowout Bash. Telluride's eclectic history and ever-present funk come alive during this weeklong celebration including four concerts, a 70's party with Boogie Machine, contests, après-ski revelries and giveaways.

"Telluride opened with five lifts in 1972,
More lifts to build, so much to do.
Chair lifts were added one by one,
until all 16 were completely done.
The gondola fired up in 1996,
which added a transportation link to the mix.
Then came the grand opening of Prospect Bowl,
three new quads and more breathtaking terrain to patrol.
Come celebrate Telluride turning the big 3-0
For a unforgettable birthday bash, we will throw!"
said Gregg Bagni, marketing guru for the Telluride Ski Resort.

The festivities kick off March 1, at 1 p.m.with the Bartender's Race at Gorrono Ranch, Telluride's mid-mountain restaurant. Local bartenders test their drink-pourin' and speed skills navigating through an obstacle course. A variety of prizes including Oakley goggles, Helipro backpacks and Tubbs snowshoes will be awarded. The action continues at Gorrono until 3 p.m. with music by local favorite, Rico Blues Project. After grooving to Rico Blues, guests can head to the Sheridan Opera House for an après ski party at 3:30 p.m., followed by a special release of the String Cheese Incident's documentary Waiting for the Snow to Fall.
