Kirkwood, CA – (Press Release) – Bright sun, blue skies — snow in the forecast, happiness is wanting what you get. And what you get at Kirkwood on Thanksgiving weekend is a whole lot of fun for the whole family.
Give thanks that the Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Center opens on November 24. Rent cross country skis or snowshoes and the Kirkwood staff will point you to the snow fun. You will also find great views of the high Sierra and an occasional bald eagle sighting. Be sure to bring binoculars.
On Thanksgiving Day, grab a frozen turkey and bowl away! The action is free on the ice rink at 1 p.m. In the evening, feast on a turkey and prime rib dinner buffet with all the trimmings (bowling turkeys excluded) served from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Wall Bar & Grille. Price for adults is $24.95 and for kids under 12, $12.95. Space is limited and reservations are recommended. Please call the resort at 209-258-7365 or visit www.kirkwood.com for more information.
The great food holiday continues on Friday with gingerbread houses to decorate in the Lodge lobby at 1 p.m. Eat ’em up, take ’em home or, if you dare, leave them on display for others to share through the holiday season. Gather ’round the community tree on Saturday at 3 p.m. to hang ornaments and nibble on free cookies, hot cocoa and cider.
Update your cross country gear or outfit yourself for the sport at the Great Gear Sale. Packages include skis, boots, poles, snowshoes and clothing. On Friday, downhill skiers get ready for the white stuff (it will come!) at a free ski and board waxing, and prep clinic. Be sure to check out the dry-land clinic on Saturday where they have the hottest new training tools — and you don’t need snow!
Located at a base elevation of 7,800 feet, Kirkwood Mountain Resort received more than 65 feet of snow during the 2004-05 season — more than any other Tahoe resort — and it will come again! For now, bundle up to enjoy the bright, late-fall weather and make wonderful memories on Thanksgiving weekend at Kirkwood.
