Concerned that the action was grinding to a halt once snow had melted in the Swiss Alps, a Verbier chalet is offering a novel way to keep things interesting in the off-season: wife-swapping.
This summer, the French company Papillon Resorts introduced a naughty new thrust to Chalet Mont aux Sources business plan. According to the companys websitepapillondesalpes.comchalet guests are encouraged to get it on with strangers via closed swinging (your own partner MIA), open swinging (your own partner included), or soft swinging (the two of you merely watchingor being watched). In any event, the brochure insists that it is NOT necessary to actually have sex with other people to have a good time. To ensure thats the case, Papillon offers plenty of fun alternatives, ranging from enjoying the best summer glacier skiing in the world to playing naked Twister with the couple from Room 6.
The concept has already created a stir in Verbier. The resorts tourism director, Patrick Messeiller, told the Daily Telegraph of London that he worried the chalet might make the town look like a big brothel. However he would not respond to Skiings calls or e-mails. In fact, it seems no one wants to talk about the operation. When contacted about a British report that chalet maids were fending off propositions from guests in rut, the manager of the Springbok Ski Club (which owns the chalet) refused to either provide her name or answer any questions. But she did offer one explanation for the tight-lipped policy: sound business strategy. Discretion, she explained, is the key to Papillons success.
