OUTERWEAR FOR WISE GUYS
You’ll see lots of monochromatic outfits in preppy patterns (think herringbone and houndstooth) at resorts this year, but the waterproof-breathable Motley Crue by Quiksilver is the only suit that looks good (and stays dry) whether you’re dropping into the halfpipe or applying for work in the waste management business.($310; quiksilver.com)

SKIERS DIG ON SWINE
Maybe Texans have brought more to Rocky Mountain ski towns than disposable incomes and hearty appetites. These days, down-home BBQ joints are popping up faster than drinking problems. There’s Moe’s Original BBQ in Eagle-Vail (Moe’s third restaurant in the county) and Butte 66 BBQ Roadhouse in Crested Butte. Summit County alone held two nationally recognized barbecue cook-offs this past summer. What’s driving this hunger for pulled pork? “It’s a good value,” says Moe’s owner and Alabama native Mike Fernandez. “We just buy a chunk o’ meat and throw it in the pit until the fat comes falling out. People go crazy, especially in a place where sandwiches cost 12 bucks.”
