Tornado Takes Out Outdoor Retailer Show


Salt Lake City, UT, Aug. 11–A severe tornado ripped through Salt Lake City, Utah, around 1 pm. The funnel cloud tracking right through the Salt Palace Convention Center, scene of the Outdoor Retailer (OR) trade show.

Several hundred members of the skiing and outdoor industry were in the pavilions flanking the Salt Palace, setting up booths and demonstrations for the OR show, which was slated to run tomorrow through Sunday.

The tornado ripped through and collapsed one of the pavilions, which are basically large exhibition tents. Witnesses say that several people were trapped under rubble and debris when the tent collapsed.

It is not known yet how many OR attendees were among the more than 100 people reported injured. It is also not know whether the OR show will be cancelled.
