Two Skiers Die in Swiss Gondola Accident


Crans-Montana, Switzerland Dec. 28--A fiercestorm that swept across western Europe on Sunday killed two people andseriously injured two others riding in a gondola at the Crans-Montanaresort. According to reports, a tree-knocked over by hurricane-forcewinds-fell on the gondola's cable and a cabin with four passengersdetached, crashing to the ground .

The storm, one of the most violent to be recorded in the last 50 years,knocked down trees, cutting off electricity and closing train linesacross the Alps. It killed at least 94 people across southern England,France, Germany and Switzerland, left hundreds homeless due to floodingand stranded tens of thousands of holiday travelers.
