VAIL, CO – News Release – Vail Mountain skiers and riders can take their last nostalgic chairlift ride on Highline Lift (chair 10) this weekend. The last ride up on the old chair 10 takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1. It will be replaced this spring and summer with a new high speed quad lift. Highline Lift enthusiasts who wish to own one or several of the original Riblet two-seater chairs will be able to sign up for a chair from 12 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 15. Look for the Yellow Jackets at the top and bottom of the lift to be included in the chair distribution.
For those unable to ride chair 10 one last time this Sunday, interested parties can reserve a chair by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and requesting to be put on the list. Please include name, email address and phone number.
Later this spring when chair 10 is dismantled, all interested parties will be notified of a pick up time and location to receive their chair 10. Individuals are responsible for their own transportation and hauling on the designated pick up date. All parts of chair 10, including any chairs not picked up on the designated date, will be recycled. All chairs are provided on a first-come, first-served basis according to the sign up list.
The resort plans to replace the existing Highline Lift that was installed in 1973 with a new high-speed detachable quad that will provide better and faster access to the area’s expert terrain including the signature bump run, Highline, after which the chair is named. Construction of the new lift is set to begin this spring. The new ride time is expected to be half of the current 14-minute ride.
