Vail, Colo. -March 3, 2008
– The community of Vail, Colorado through the Vail Veterans Program will host 26 amputee veteran soldiers and marines from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts this March 5 through 9, 2008. Each amputee veteran will travel to Vail with a guest for skiing, snowboarding, and confidence building recreation. In its fifth year, the Vail Veterans Program through the generosity of the Vail community and donors is able to provide a unique complimentary four day program focused on reestablishing abilities in the recently severely wounded.
According to Vail Veterans Program founder and executive director Cheryl Jensen, “the commitment of the community to this special program has been instrumental in changing the lives of these injured hero’s and has created a strong bond with well over 125 participants who have attended the program since its inception in 2003. It is an opportunity for our community to extend a personal thank you to those who have given so much for our country.”
Each year the program concludes with a special firehouse dinner hosted by the firefighters of the Vail Fire Department. The Saturday evening dinner and festivities has become a hallmark for the event and its participants.
