Waddell Takes Silver In 200m

Sydney, Australia, Oct. 25, 2000–U.S. Disabled Ski Team member Chris Waddell (Park City, UT) picked up his first medal of the ’00 Summer Paralympic Games Tuesday with a silver in the 200m.

Waddell posted a time of 28.15, second only to France’s Pierre Fairbank, who won with a time of 27.88. Aussie John Lindsay captured the bronze with a time of 28.42.

Waddell wont three wheelchair racing events during Paralympic time trials this summer. The silver medal joins a host of others as Waddell has won five during Winter Paralympic Games-all gold!. He is also the owner of three World Championship golds and took home four medals (one gold) at last season’s World Championships.

A mono-skier during the winter, Waddell was paralyzed below the waist in a skiingaccident while at Middlebury College in 1988.

It was the second medal won by U.S. Ski Team members at the Games as cross country skier Bob Balk (Penfield, NY) collected thesilver in the Pentathlon last week.

The ’00 Summer Paralympics continue until Oct. 29 in Sydney.
