Whistler/Blackcomb Opens with the Let it Snow Enduro

Morning yoga sessions always improve a day of skiing, especially on heated floors next to a wood stove. The Silverton Movement Center offers classes ranging from yoga, Pilates, and belly-dancing. For just $12, visiting skiers can drop into any class.

Whistler, B.C., Canada, Nov. 11--After two big snowstorms, the time has come for Whistler/Blackcomb to fire up their chairlifts. On Sat. Nov. 13, they will open Blackcomb Mountain for the season from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. with four lifts.

Early snowfall has dumped more than three feet on the Canadian gem, allowing the area to open earlier than originally expected. And more snow is falling.

"We are thrilled to be opening early," said Whistler/Blackcomb Vice President of marketing and sales, David Perry. "We will be opening more terrain and chairlifts as soon as the snow conditions allow."

The Wizard, Solar, Catskinner, and Jersey Cream chairs will access several mid-mountain runs to be determined on Friday afternoon Nov. 12, after the current snowfall. Skiers will have to download on the Solar Coaster and Wizard chairs.

To kick off the season, Whistler/Blackcomb is holding the, "Let it Snow Enduro" contest. This bizarre endurance test pits 24 skiers in a trial of will for a season pass and the bragging rights of being the first on the mountain, with the next person being 100 chairs behind. Resort officials will select 24 of the keenest skiers and riders via a lottery drawing Thurs. Nov. 11.

Contestants will stand in line, buckled into their ski boots, at Blackcomb's Wizard Lift for 24-hours straight, with the cheery Christmas song, "Let it Snow" playing the entire time. The winner will be the person still standing at 8:00a.m. Saturday morning. All 24 contestants will be eligible for prizes. If there is more than one person standing come Saturday morning, a Whistler/Blackcomb trivia contest will determine the winner.

Drinks and snacks will be served and contestants will get a ten-minute break every three hours during the contest.

Potential contestants can register by calling 800-766-0449 or online at: http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/html/let_it_snow_enduro/index.html

Registration ends Thurs. Nov. 11, at high noon and contestants will be notified shortly after so they can be ready to go Fri. at 8:00 a.m.

Lift ticket prices for Whistler/Blackcomb will be determined Fri. Nov.12, so call 800-766-0449 for information.
