Whitetail, Pa. Oct. 1, 1999--Snow Time, Inc., owner of Ski Liberty, Ski Roundtop and Ski Windham, completed the purchase of Whitetail Resort for $11.1 million on September 27. In a separate transaction, Snow Time also purchased a large parcel of land for real estate development.
The general manager will be Don MacAskill, the GM of Whitetail under the old ownership, and Kim Smith, former assistant mountain manager at Ski Roundtop, will become the mountain manager at Whitetail.
Plans for this season are to get the area open and operate it for a season to determine what is needed. "It's too late in the game for major improvements," said Eric Flynn, president of Ski Liberty. As for the real estate development, Flynn said that Snow Time will continue with the masterplan which calls for 900 units--to date, 70 have been built.
Package deals between Whitetail, Ski Roundtop and Ski Liberty, the three major ski areas surrounding the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., market, will be in place for the 2000-01 season. "Again, it's too late to offer a season pass for all three for this season," Flynn said. "However, we will offer this year's season pass holders vouchers for Whitetail and holders of our Advantage card will receive 40 percent off at Whitetail."
