– High-spirited events and activities are all part of what makes Squaw Valley a destination-must for Lake Tahoe Independence Day revelers of all ages. To kick-off the weekend-long festivities, Squaw Valley USA and the Village at Squaw are hosting Whole Lotta’ Squaw! 3rd of July Independence Celebration, featuring Heartbreaker – a Tribute to Led Zeppelin. Whole Lotta’ Squaw! is every family’s answer to a unique holiday celebration in a hassle-free, picturesque North Lake Tahoe setting. Jam-packed with 70’s/Rock n’ Roll themed activities and events leading up to an evening concert and laser light show, Whole Lotta’ Squaw! goes off with a bang from 11 am to 10:30 pm on Thursday, July 3, 2008.
The Whole Lotta’ Squaw! 3rd of July Independence Celebration pinnacles in the evening with a vivacious concert featuring Heartbreaker – a Tribute to Led Zeppelin on the KT-22 Sun Deck. Set under the spectacular mountain peaks, the concert stage comes alive with Heartbreaker’s classic Led Zeppelin songs. After the sun has set, the concert’s mountainous backdrop is illuminated with a dazzling display of colorful laser lights. The concert starts at 7:30 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm with the laser light experience from 9:30 to 10:30 pm. The cost is $5 per person/$10 per family. Current and 2008/09 Squaw passholders receive two-for-one entry with 07/08 or 08/09 season pass. Beer, Wine, Cocktails & BBQ are available for purchase (outside alcohol prohibited).
Before the concert and laser light show, there is a plethora of Rock-n-roll themed events and activities that are sure to make this Independence holiday unforgettable. Festival-goers can marvel in the growing tradition of the High Sierra Beard & Moustache Championships from 6 to 7:30 pm. Full Bearded, Partial Bearded and Moustache sporting competitors can begin registering at 5 pm. Cost is $10 per person with a chance to win the $500 grand prize or a time honored trophy! Kids of all ages can channel the Rock n’ Roll era and create their very own facial hair from 3 to 5 pm in the Plaza and strut their stuff in the Children’s Beard Parade from 5:30 to 6 pm. There is no cost for participation or faux facial hair. These bearded events take place in The Village Events Plaza – complete with a Benefit Beer Garden where adult festival-goers can drink a cold one in support of the Truckee Railroad Museum.
Whole Lotta’ Squaw! day-time events are the Flower Child Guided Mountain Hike, the High Camp Rock n’ Roll Pool Party, Kids Crafts & Beard Making, and Terrain Park Art where festival-goers can make their mark on Squaw Valley’s terrain parks by helping paint a 70’s themed feature that will be placed in one of Squaw’s terrain parks this coming winter.
From the Valley to the Peaks, Whole Lotta’ Squaw! activities are abundant. Guests can take a scenic Cable Car ride to High Camp where they can enjoy mountaintop ice skating, tennis, swimming and access miles of hiking trails. In the base village, guests can choose from an array of outdoor dining options and activities – sky jump bungee trampoline, climbing wall, 18-hole miniature golf, giant games, hiking & biking.
