World Cup Champ Michelle Roark Out for Season

Park City, UT Jan. 20–Michelle Roark (Golden, CO), the defendingWorld Cup dual moguls champion, is out for the rest of the ski seasonafter undergoing knee surgery, the U.S. Ski Team said Thursday.

Roark injured her right knee Jan. 7 during training before a World Cupcontest at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort. After examination by Dr. RichardSteadman shortly after the accident, Roark underwent surgery this weekto repair a torn meniscus in her knee at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic inVail, Colo.

Steadman said she also is expected to require surgery to repair a tornanterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, but it was decided todelay ACL surgery for perhaps two months – until the meniscus isstronger. She will be on crutches for about six weeks, he said.

Roark, 25, a student at Colorado School of Mines, said she also wouldresume classes during her rehabilitation, which is expected to take upto six months before she returns to skiing.
