OBERHOFEN, Switzerland Nov. 19, 2003 (AP)–Five skiers and snowboarders were given two-year bans for failing drug tests.
Slovenian skier Primoz Skerbinek tested positive for the anabolic steroid Stanozolol, according to FIS, the sport’s world governing body of skiing.
FIS said Skerbinek was suspended by the Slovenian Ski Association for two years beginning March 28. Skerbinek finished 21st in downhill and 32nd in super-G in last winter’s World Championships.
Four other athletes picked up two-year bans after testing positive for marijuana: Spanish freestyle skier Peter Alexander Bouvrie Morales; Spanish cross-country skier Ilazki Barace Baque; Italian snowboarder Paolo Bazzano, and Italian snowboarder Lorenzo Barbieri.
