Where is the limit of what’s possible? We’ll never know until we seek it out. That was the impetus of what appears to be the first downhill Onewheel film, “DIRT.”
“DIRT” started with an untouched property in Northern California, a few sketches of ambitious features, and the dream of pushing the sport of Onewheel forward, which at first glance sounds kooky but ultimately has major Candide vibes.
Remember when Hollywood called upon a slew of big mountain skiers to do the dirt-skiing stunts for Vin Diesel in “XXX?” What about Brandon Semenuk’s 2015 unReal Segment (this single-shot bike segment is like a salve to my stressed-out mind). While Onewheel might be the newest vehicle for moving across the earth, their film fits the bill for things we like: going downhill fast, over rock features, through trees, and bringing our friends along for the ride. Sure, we prefer to do it on snow, but until winter comes—surf the brown pow, skiers. And wear your helmet.
