The pandemic may be casting some uncertainty around the coming ski season, but one thing remains certain: Nothing can cancel winter stoke, or the Warren Miller tradition of kicking off the ski season with its annual film. And while the showing of WME’s “Future Retro,” goes virtual this year in light of the pandemic, it promises to deliver the stoke and action we’ve come to expect from every other Warren Miller film over the last 70 years—and even some of our favorite characters from years past.

That includes Warren Miller legends Scot Schmidt, the Egan brothers, and athlete-turned-videographer Tom Day, who reunite at Big Sky, Montana, to both pay tribute to one of Warren’s favorite haunts and show the new kids on the block—freeride phenoms Parkin Costain and Maria and Jack Lovely, to be specific—a thing or two about skiing big lines with style.

The film also takes us on the kind of far-flung adventures that Warren loved to capture on film. Aspen Freaks Baker Boyd and Victor Major explore summit to sea lines in Iceland, while Nick Russell, Elena Hight, and Danny Davis adventure to Antarctica. Of course, “Future Retro” also showcases skiing a little closer to home, celebrating the joys of every-day aspects of our sport, like digging deep trenches on pristine groomers in Killington.
