Arapahoe Basin Avy Awareness Day

Arapahoe Basin, CO – January 25, 2008 Arapahoe Basin will be hosting itssixth annual Beacon Bowl and Avalanche Awareness Day Saturday, February 2,2008. The event will benefit the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

The Beacon Bowl is an event developed by A-Basin’s ski patrol to teach andtest skills for the backcountry. Patrol will start the day at 10:00 a.m.with the Beacon Bowl competition. This event is an avalanche transceivercompetition for recreational and professional levels.Free beacon clinics with A-Basin Ski Patrol, Ortovox and BCA will take placefrom 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. An avalanche dog and snow pit demonstrationby the A-Basin ski patrol will take place at 1:00 p.m. The clinics anddemonstrations will take place on mountain at the base of the LenaweeMountain lift. A telemark clinic will also be held for all abilities from10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for $48.

Registration will take place in the A-Frame beginning at 8:00 a.m. A $15registration fee for the Beacon Bowl will be donated to the ColoradoAvalanche Information Center (CAIC) and will include a raffle ticket, abeverage and a slice of pizza at the après ski party.

Incredible prizes will be awarded to the top finishers of the Beacon Bowland a raffle will be held for products donated by Ortovox, Bent GateMountaineering, Samuel Adams, Colorado Ski Country USA, New Belgium, ThePepsi Center, Backcountry.com and several restaurant certificates to benefitthe CAIC.

A silent auction will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the A-Frame featuring donatedback country items, lift tickets, ski passes and A-Basin avalanche schoolentries. An après ski party and live auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. on thefirst floor of the A-Frame sponsored by New Belgium Brewery. The $3 perdraft beer and pizza revenue will also be donated to the CAIC.
