At parties, he balances things on his chin-a pair of skis, for instance-and picks up cardboard boxes with his teeth. “Unlike a lot of other skiers, his personality isn’t based on ego,” says ski writer Susan Reifer. “Being with Shane is like hanging around with a 12-year-old.”
