K2, what a rag-tag American ski company! That’s what European folks thought when this ad of a fake K2 factory in Vashon Island, Washington, ran in the November 1979 issue. Then, at the 1980 winter Olympics Phil Mahre earned a silver medal in slalom on a pair of K2s.
