Free Music in the Mountains
The mountain towns of Vail, Aspen, Steamboat, Snowbird, and Park City are all hosting free concert series this summer. By Ramsey Bernard.

The Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series, is usually filled with good bands, and this year is no different, with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and G.Love and Special Sauce coming through.
Shows will be at 5 p.m. at the base of Howelsen Hill’s Nordic ski jumps in downtown Steamboat Springs, You can’t bring alcohol or pets but there will be food and beer available inside, as well as activities, face painting, and games for children.

Snowbird’s free Cool Air Concert series run Saturdays through the summer. The best looking shows are at the end of the summer with Marshall Crenshaw playing August 6, and the Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band playing the 13th. Food and beer can be bought in the Snowbird Center and small coolers are allowed. All shows will be on the Plaza Deck

The Bud Light Hot Summer Nights series brings free concerts to Vail each Tuesday evening at 6:30. This summer’s highlights are Neil Diamond tribute band Super Diamond, on Tuesday June 21st, and Yo Momma’s Big Fat Booty Band on August 16th. Artists will perform in the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, where you can also buy food and beer. Dogs, bikes, and outside alcohol are not allowed.

Park City’s Frontier Bank Community Concert Series, presented Zions Bank and produced by Mountain Towns Music, starts June 22 with a free concert from the Holy Water Buffalo. Shows will be from 6-8 p.m. at the Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.

Snowmass Village’s Summer of Free Music series brings free shows to Snowmass each Thursday, kicking off with a June 30 performance by the New Mastersounds.
The concerts take place at the Snowmass Village Mall at 6:15. Dogs and their owners have a designated area on the hillside above Woodrun V. And while you can’t bring your own alcohol, the beer will flow like wine inside the venue. No word yet on the instinctive flocking of any beautiful women.
