Loveland Ski Area Embraces Free Heel Culture

Georgetown, CO March 24, 2004 – Loveland Ski Area will host the 8thAnnual 3-Pin Grin Telemark Festival & Freeskiing Terrain Classic onSaturday, March 27th, 2004. The 3-Pin Grin is a traditional telemark event that brings out some of the best telemark skiers from Colorado for a day of competition, festivities and fun. In addition to the race there will be live bluegrass from The No Longer Boys, a telemark demo day presented by Mountain Miser, mini-telemark-lessons with The Loveland Ski School as well as a beer festival sponsored by Coors & Boulder Beer.

“Loveland Ski Area is home to a large community of telemark skiers and the ‘3 Pin Grin’ is designed to support the growing culture free-heeling has created,” explains John Sellers, Loveland’s Special Events and Promotions Coordinator.

Intermediate to advanced telemark skiers may enter the contest to be held on the black diamond mogul run ‘Cat’s Meow’. Contestants will score points on turn quality, terrain choice, speed, air and overall performance as they negotiate bumps, gates, a sizable “kicker” as well as an uphill finish. There will be prizes for top finishers and raffle prizes for all participants.

The cost to participate is $50 which includes lift ticket, entry to the race, admission to the beer festival , telemark demo, mini-lessons and an event t-shirt. If you already have a lift ticket, the cost is $20. Visit for details.

On-site registration will take place in the Rathskeller Bar at LovelandBasin from 8:30am until 10:00am. Here racers will pay their fee, receive their bibs, be notified of their race time and receive event info. The race starts at 11:00am. The beer festival will be on the Basin plaza, weather permitting, from 12:00pm until 4:00pm and the awards ceremony will be at 4:00pm in the Basin cafeteria.
