Patagonia Merino Air Base Layers

First off, don’t lie to me Patagonia. You are claiming merino hard and this is a 51% merino wool/49% polyester blend. I do wish that this was a true merino product but, I also really love these pieces.
Initially I was worried about how lightweight they were and questions whether or not they would keep me warm. However, after a -20 degree day at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, my mind has been made up. Somehow these see-through (yes, you can actually see through them so don’t think they are cute leggings and wear them around the bar) long underwear are some of the warmest.
The hoody acts more like a balaclava than a hood, form fitting around your entire head and a high neck so not even your chin is exposed. While the look is not great for your steeze, it is really great for keeping warm in cold conditions.
Both the pants and the hoody are completely seamless (in design and performance) so the product stretches and moves with you through your worst tomahawks and your best spread eagles. Be warned though, they require regular washing as they don’t retain their elasticity after three-ish straight days of wear.
Based on the fact that my prior long underwear were first in line for ten straight years and now I will only wear the Merino Air I would say they come highly recommended and without regret for the pretty pen they cost.
