The new Blaze line from Völkl is oriented towards freeride skiers who want one easy-to-use ski for both the resort and backcountry. With a multi-layer wood core that extends into the tip and tail as well as an elastomer tip inlay called “Suspension Tips,” this ski was deemed the floatiest of the category despite its middle-of-the-road waist width. This perceived buoyancy meant that the Blaze 94 performed best in softer conditions at Taos, but some skiers found it could handle everything else, too.
STRENGTHS: Flotation, Forgiveness
WEAKNESSES: Hard-Snow Integrity, Quickness
