Backcountry Releases Namesake Touring Collection
The specialty retailer tapped the most respected brands in the backcountry skiing biz to design their new head-to-toe touring kit.

Backcountry has long been the go-to one-stop-shop for skiers looking for ski and snowboard gear by top brands, especially in the backcountry category. Now, after 22 years of selling other brands’ gear, Backcountry is releasing its own ski touring kit in collaboration with leading backcountry brands Flylow, DPS Skis, Smartwool and Black Diamond.
The new head-to-toe collaborative ski touring kit includes:
- Backcountry x DPS Nebo Alpine Touring Ski
- Backcountry x Flylow Men’s Grizzly Gulch Jacket and Mill D Bib Pant and Women’s Pfeifferhorn Jacket and Patsey Marley Bib Pant
- Backcountry x Black Diamond Skintrack Glove
- Backcountry x Smartwool PhD Superior Sock
Each product was purpose-built for backcountry skiing by those who know what that entails: Backcountry’s Gearheads, the brand’s in-house product experts who co-developed the pieces using their own backcountry insights, extensive field-testing, and customer feedback.
“This season’s products reflect our obsession with integrating performance materials and purposeful fit into our apparel, and is also a celebration of our company heritage,” said Diana Seung, EVP Merchandising at Backcountry, in a press statement. “We’ve been influenced as a brand and as a community by the backcountry; now we’re building products for it.”
These products include some of the best of the collaborating brands’ technologies. The new Backcountry-exclusive DPS Nebo Alpine Touring Ski is a mash-up of DPS’ popular Alchemist and Tour 1 capped carbon constructions, and the end-result is an ultralight (below 1,500 grams) yet damp and stable touring ski.
The partnership with Flylow also led to the development of the innovative women’s Patsey Marley Bib Pant—Flylow’s first women’s Polartec Neoshell bib.
“Backcountry challenged us to dream up the best touring kit we can make together, and we did just that,” said Flylow Co-Founder Dan Abrams in a press release.
