Kirkwood, California – Women’s specific programs have become intensely popular across the ski industry in recent years, and at the forefront of these programs are resorts like Kirkwood who host several clinics throughout the season. With the on‐going development of women’s specific programs, numbers of newcomers to the sport continue to grow at Kirkwood with similar results echoing across the nation’s resorts.
For the fourth consecutive year, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Expedition:Kirkwood are teaming up with Burton Snowboards to offer a Women’s Learn to Ride Center targeting new riders in an effort to ensure a positive experience through the learning process. Kirkwood offers a women’s specific line of Burton snowboarding gear through rental shops at the resort including boots and boards designed exclusively for a woman’s body, providing a more beginner‐friendly experience. The combination of specially designed gear and training programs created with the intent to provide an accelerated learning curve allows newcomers to the sport to enjoy a positive experience through their first day on the mountain. Throughout the 2008/09 season, the resort is scheduled to host a multitude of women’s specific programs including the Expedition:Kirkwood Women’s 3‐Day Weekend March 6 – 8, and several installments of Women’s One Day Ski and Board Clinics.
EXPEDITION:KIRKWOOD WOMEN’S 3‐DAY WEEKEND
The Expedition:Kirkwood Women’s 3‐Day Weekend caters to both skiers and snowboarders alike and is focused on providing participants the opportunity to work in a team environment to develop valuable skills needed to effectively navigate a variety of terrain and snow conditions. Certified instructors from Expedition:Kirkwood work with small groups of participants over three full days of coaching to develop confidence and technique. Lynsey Dyer, one of North America’s top professional skiers, will work with women as a guest coach throughout the course of the weekend. Lynsey was the 2003 North American Freeskiing Champion, holds a multitude of additional freeskiing titles, and has been featured in several industry films and magazines.
On Friday evening, attendees are invited to a private fashion show and welcome reception highlighting the season’s latest trends and exposing participants to a variety of gear and essentials. A private party on Saturday evening hosted by resort retailer, Kirkwood Mountain Sports, provides weekend participants access to personal shoppers, custom boot fittings, and equipment analysis in addition to exclusively priced merchandise for women looking to upgrade gear.
Weekend participants have the option to sample complimentary demo equipment provided by Burton and Rossignol, as well as video analysis for each day of coaching.
