We checked out some of the best 2016-17 skis nearly a year before they’ll be on shelves.

Ryan Dionne is a former SKI (and Skiing) digital editor, and before that ran Skiing Business, freelanced gear reviews, and worked at a newspaper. A trained journalist, he's interviewed and worked with some of the best pro skiers, had beers with the people who run some of the biggest outdoor brands, and has done hot laps with plenty of people who ski faster than him. Now a video producer for Outside (SKI's parent company), Ryan still geeks out on gear tech—but usually from behind a video camera. And while he calls the mountains of Colorado his playground, he never forgets is Wisconsin roots, and the small hills he grew up skiing.
